Rep. James Beverly

District 143, GA House Minority Leader

Dr. James Beverly has represented Georgia’s 143rd District in Macon since 2011 and currently serves as Minority Leader of Georgia House of Representatives Democratic Caucus.

In the legislature, he serves on several committees: Rules, Appropriations (Transportation), Ethics, Health and Human Services, Retirement, Special Rules, and Small Business Development. He is also a member of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.

Leader Beverly earned an undergraduate degree from Guilford College, a doctorate in optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, an MBA from Wesleyan College, and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School. He is the father of three children; Micah, a graduate from Morehouse, Mya, who attends NYU, and Jacob, who attends Temple University in Philadelphia.

Leader Beverly has built a reputation as a passionate public speaker and advocate for legislation that helps protect Georgia’s people’s health and welfare. He is also an optometrist, a small business owner, former Chairman of the Macon-Bibb Community Enhancement Authority, and a past lecturer in leadership at Mercer University.
